Finally got the husband on board with Gold after years!

Okay, so I've been bugging my husband, John, for YEARS about getting some of our retirement savings into physical gold. Seriously, since we started farming back in '98, I've just had this gut feeling about tangible assets. You know, something you can actually hold, not just numbers on a screen. With the way things have been going lately, I felt even stronger about it. He, however, is a classic "stocks and bonds" guy. Always looking at the market trends, reading all those financial papers I just gloss over.
Well, turns out what finally convinced him wasn't my persistent nudging (shocker, right?), but actually seeing what our neighbors down the road went through. They had a decent chunk of their retirement in some tech stocks that absolutely tanked last year. I mean, not just a dip, but a proper nosedive. They were talking about having to sell off some land they didn't want to just to make up for it. That really hit home for John, especially since we're looking at retirement in the next 10-15 years, and we've worked too hard on this farm for anything like that to happen.
So, we finally decided to pull the trigger. After a lot of research, we went with a Gold IRA company and rolled over about $75,000 from his old 401k. It felt like a pretty big step, but honestly, now that it's done, I just feel a lot more secure. Knowing that a good portion of our nest egg isn't tied to the whims of the stock market just brings a huge sense of relief. We're thinking about adding another $10-15k next year if things keep looking unstable.
Has anyone else had to really convince their spouse to get into gold or silver? What was the 'aha!' moment for them? I'm curious if it was similar to our situation or something totally different. Just feeling really good about it as a farmer's wife here in Kansas City, knowing we've got that extra layer of protection.
