Finally got my wife on board with Gold IRAs after years – huge weight off my shoulders

Been on this sub for a while, mostly lurking and absorbing, but gotta share a win today. For years, I've been preaching the gospel of precious metals, especially the role of gold in a diversified portfolio. My personal portfolio is heavily weighted in PMs, and it’s been a massive part of growing my wealth over the last decade. My wife, bless her heart, always indulged me but never really got it for her own retirement funds. She's more traditional, leaned heavily into tech stocks and mutual funds, which, don't get me wrong, have done well for us overall. But the sheer lack of physical asset exposure in her retirement accounts always gnawed at me.
The conversation usually went something like, "Honey, have you looked at setting up a Gold IRA with some of your old 401k?" and I'd get the patented "I'll think about it" or "It's too complicated." We're talking about a significant chunk of change here – her current 401k alone is sitting just under $700k. My own Gold IRA and physical stack is well into the 7-figures, so I know the drill. I guess she just didn't see the urgency until… well, frankly, the current geopolitical climate and inflation numbers started getting really wild. We live in Scottsdale, and even here, you feel it. Rising property taxes, groceries are insane, and don't even get me started on the price of a decent round of golf right now.
Anyway, she finally came to me last week, genuinely concerned. She saw a news report about central banks buying gold at record rates and asked, "Should I be doing that?" I nearly fell out of my chair. We sat down, and I walked her through the benefits again, but this time it clicked. She saw the hedges against inflation, the historical stability, and the pure diversification play. We talked about rolling over a portion of her old 401k – targeting about $200k for now – into a self-directed Gold IRA. It’s not quite done yet, but the paperwork is initiated with Augusta Precious Metals (been using them for years with no issues, great service).
Honestly, it’s a huge relief. I’ve always felt responsible for our family's financial security, and having her retirement funds more robustly protected against market volatility feels like a massive weight off my shoulders. Anyone else have similar experiences getting their significant others on board? What finally convinced them? I'm curious if my struggle was unique or a common theme here.
