Finally feeling good about my Gold IRA almost a decade later

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share a little bit of a success story with my Gold IRA, especially since I know there's a lot of skepticism out there and plenty of folks on the fence. I rolled over a portion of my military pension into a Gold IRA back in 2015, somewhere around $300k at the time. I'm based here in San Diego, and after serving for 20+ years, financial security has always been a huge priority for me. The market volatility around that time, and truthfully, even now, just made me uneasy with everything in traditional stocks. I wanted something tangible, something that felt like a real anchor for my retirement savings.
It wasn't always smooth sailing, and for a good few years, I’ll be honest, I questioned my decision. Gold had its ups and downs, and watching the stock market cruise sometimes made me feel like I was missing out. But I stuck with it, mainly because the core principle of diversification and asset protection resonated so strongly with me. My advisor at the time (who I still work with, by the way) kept reassuring me about the long-term play, and that really helped me weather those periods of doubt.
Fast forward to today, and I'm genuinely thrilled with where things are. Especially with all the economic uncertainty globally and right here at home, seeing that gold portion of my portfolio not only hold its value but appreciate significantly has been a massive relief. It’s comforting to know I have that safety net. It’s probably closer to $450k now on that initial investment, which might not be mind-blowing returns compared to some tech stocks, but for stability and peace of mind as a retiree, it's exactly what I was looking for.
I know everyone’s situation is different, but for anyone who's a bit older, looking for long-term stability, and maybe has some rollover funds from a 401k or pension, it's definitely something to consider. I’m not saying it's for everyone or that it's a get-rich-quick scheme, but for me, it's proven to be a solid choice for preserving wealth. Has anyone else had a similar experience with their Gold IRA over a longer period? Or any military vets here who went a similar route?
