Finally diversified my old 401k into gold – feeling good about it

I’ve been eyeing a Gold IRA for a while now, probably close to two years. My 401k from my previous job just sat there, doing... well, whatever 401ks do. It had decent growth, but with all the volatility lately, I was just constantly stressed checking the balance. I’m thinking long-term here, not trying to get rich quick, and the idea of having some truly tangible assets just resonated with me.
Finally bit the bullet a few months ago and rolled over a good chunk of it – about $350k into a Gold IRA. The process was surprisingly smooth, though there were a few more hoops to jump through than I initially expected. My financial advisor here in Salt Lake City was a huge help, walking me through all the documentation and making sure I understood the fees involved. It’s a good feeling knowing a significant portion of my retirement savings isn’t just numbers on a screen anymore. There's a certain peace of mind that comes with owning physical gold, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty.
I’m still keeping an eye on the market, obviously, but the gut-wrenching swings I used to feel are definitely less intense now. My advisor also pointed me to some great resources, especially the Learning Center on Gold IRA Blueprint. It’s got a ton of articles and videos that really break down the different types of gold you can invest in, storage options, and all the tax implications. Seriously, if you're on the fence, check that out – it answered so many questions I didn't even know I had.
Anyone else feeling this sense of relief after diversifying into gold? Or are there any unexpected downsides you’ve encountered that I should be aware of? Would love to hear other people’s experiences, especially those who’ve been in a Gold IRA for a while longer than me.
