Thought I'd share a little win with the community here. For years now, ever since I started getting into gold after the whole 2008 mess, my wife has been... let's just say 'skeptical' about my Gold IRA. She's always been more of a traditional stocks and bonds gal, which is fine, but I kept telling her we needed some real diversification, especially as we're both retired now. I've got a good chunk, probably around $150k or so, in my Precious Metals IRA, and it's been a steady rock for me. I started small after selling off some of my old teaching pension leftovers and just kept adding over time.
The turning point, believe it or not, wasn't me showing her charts or talking about inflation (though I've done plenty of that!). It was actually a news segment about the banking uncertainty earlier this year. She saw how quickly things can get shaky, and I calmly reminded her that our physical gold holdings aren't tied to any bank's balance sheet right here in our backyard, not even some big bank in New York. I explained again how having that tangible asset, a portion of our overall retirement savings, really protects against those wild swings in the paper markets.
It took some doing, but last week, she finally agreed to move a portion of her own traditional IRA into a Gold IRA. We're starting with a smaller amount for her, maybe $30k-$40k, just to get her feet wet. It feels good knowing we're both on the same page now with this part of our finances. I'm based out of Phoenix, and finding good, reputable dealers who also work with IRA custodians wasn't too hard, but it did take some research back when I first started. Any other couples out there who had similar conversations? What finally made your spouse come around?
