Finally added silver to my Gold IRA - feeling good about it!
- •You know, for years, I've been pretty gold-focused with my IRA, probably like many of you.
- •Being a doctor here in Boston, I've seen enough economic uncertainty to know the value of real assets, and gold has always been my go-to.
- •My portfolio is pretty diversified already, but my precious metals allocation was almost entirely in gold.
You know, for years, I've been pretty gold-focused with my IRA, probably like many of you. Being a doctor here in Boston, I've seen enough economic uncertainty to know the value of real assets, and gold has always been my go-to. My portfolio is pretty diversified already, but my precious metals allocation was almost entirely in gold. Had about 70-80k in there, mostly American Eagles and some South African Krugerrands. I was always thinking about silver, but for some reason, I just kept putting it off.
Well, I finally bit the bullet and added a decent chunk of silver to my IRA last month. Went with some 10oz and 100oz bars, mostly because the premiums felt a little more reasonable than their coin counterparts for the weight. It wasn't a massive shift in my overall allocation, maybe 15-20k worth, but it just feels right. The whole gold-to-silver ratio thing has been on my mind, and honestly, silver just feels like it has more room to run given its industrial applications and how undervalued it often seems compared to gold. I'm not trying to time the market, but just looking at the long-term potential, it feels like a smart move.
I also spent some time playing around with that Gold IRA Calculator (the one at https://calculator.goldirablueprint.com/) to see how adding silver might impact my overall projected IRA value over the next 10-15 years, assuming different growth rates. It was pretty eye-opening, especially seeing how even modest increases in silver's value could significantly boost returns on that portion of my portfolio. It just reaffirmed my decision.
Anyone else here primarily gold-focused who recently diversified into silver within their IRA? Or are there any arguments against adding silver that I should be considering more carefully? Always interested to hear other perspectives from people who've been in this game longer or have different strategies. Feeling good about this move, but always open to learning more!
