Feeling pretty good about my gold allocation right now
- •I've been holding physical gold in an IRA for a while now, probably close to 10 years, and I wanted to share a mini-milestone.
- •It's really paid off, especially considering the market turbulence we've seen on and off since 2020.
- •My initial gold investment for the IRA was around $70k back in the day, mostly for wealth preservation and as a hedge against inflation.
I've been holding physical gold in an IRA for a while now, probably close to 10 years, and I wanted to share a mini-milestone. As a doctor here in Boston, my portfolio's always been pretty diversified, decent chunk in stocks, some real estate, but I've always kept a good 10-15% in precious metals. It's really paid off, especially considering the market turbulence we've seen on and off since 2020.
My initial gold investment for the IRA was around $70k back in the day, mostly for wealth preservation and as a hedge against inflation. Slowly added more over time, especially during downturns when prices dropped a bit. It’s been steady, but in the last year or so, it really started to shine. With the recent run-up, my gold IRA portion alone is now comfortably over $120k. That's a solid 70+% return, which feels great considering it's mostly been a 'set it and forget it' part of my portfolio. It's especially satisfying comparing it to some of the lumpier returns in other sectors.
A few months ago, I was actually playing around with one of those online tools – specifically, the Gold IRA Calculator I found on Gold IRA Blueprint – just to get a rough idea of projected growth and how different scenarios might play out. It was interesting to see how even conservative estimates for gold appreciation stacked up over time. Anyone else here been pleasantly surprised by their gold holdings recently? What's your average buy-in and how has it performed for you?
I'm not looking to move everything into gold, obviously, but it's a strong reminder of why diversification with a tangible asset like this can be a smart move, especially when you're looking at a longer time horizon towards retirement. It provides a real sense of security in an otherwise unpredictable world. Really interested to hear if others are seeing similar results or have different takes on gold's recent performance.
