Just wanted to share a little wins story here for anyone feeling hesitant about their gold moves. I’m an old-timer compared to some of y'all here, closing in on 50 and about 15 years out from a full federal pension. For a while, felt like I was behind on supplementing that pension, but about five years ago, I pulled the trigger and opened a Gold IRA. Started by rolling over an old 401k from a private sector job I had before coming to Albuquerque, which was maybe around $40k at the time. Didn't touch my government TSP, that's staying put.
I’ve been adding a little bit here and there since then, mostly physical gold coins through my IRA custodian. My total gold portfolio (all IRA) is sitting right around $80k now. Seeing the market do its thing lately, especially with all the talk about inflation and interest rates, it just feels so reassuring to have that rock-solid anchor in my portfolio. It’s not about getting rich quick for me; it’s about preserving purchasing power and having something tangible when everything else feels a bit abstract. The comfort level it provides is probably worth more than the actual gains.
I know some folks here are all about the 100x moonshots, but for a government employee like me, looking for stability and a hedge against uncertainty, this has been a fantastic decision. It’s certainly added a significant buffer to what the pension will provide. I’m actually starting to ramp up my contributions a bit more now, aiming to hit six figures in that account before I even think about retirement. Just thinking out loud, curious if anyone else has seen their gold holdings provide similar peace of mind?
