Fed policy, gold, and my rollover – anyone else feeling
- •Been thinking a lot lately about how the Fed's been handling things and what that means for my gold.
- •Inflation numbers still bouncing around, interest rate chatter, quantitative easing/tightening – it’s a lot to keep track of.
- •When Powell talks, I definitely feel it in my gut, especially since a big chunk of my retirement is tied up in physical gold through a Gold IRA.
Been thinking a lot lately about how the Fed's been handling things and what that means for my gold. Inflation numbers still bouncing around, interest rate chatter, quantitative easing/tightening – it’s a lot to keep track of. When Powell talks, I definitely feel it in my gut, especially since a big chunk of my retirement is tied up in physical gold through a Gold IRA.
I did a rollover about three years ago, took a little over $300k from an old 401k and put it into gold and silver. At the time, seemed like a no-brainer with all the money printing going on during COVID. I’m a manufacturing exec here in Cleveland, and I just fundamentally believe in hard assets. You can touch it, you can hold it (well, not literally, it's in a vault, but you get the idea). It's not some abstract digital number that can be wiped out with a few keystrokes. Anyway, with all the volatility lately, and the talk of potential rate cuts, I’m wondering how others are seeing this play out for their gold holdings.
On one hand, lower rates should be good for gold, right? Makes non-yielding assets more attractive. But then if the Fed is cutting rates because the economy is in trouble, that’s a whole different ballgame. I’ve seen my gold go up and down with these announcements, but it always feels like the underlying value is still there. My portfolio is probably sitting around $350k-$375k right now, mostly depending on the daily spot price. It’s comforting to know it’s not all tied to the stock market rollercoaster, but it’s still sensitive.
Anyone else in a similar boat, especially with a significant portion of their retirement in precious metals? How are you interpreting the Fed's next moves for your stack? Is anyone considering adding more on dips, or are you holding tight? Just curious what the general sentiment is out there.
