Alright folks, got something rolling around in my head related to my Gold IRA and wanted to get some other perspectives. I've been in the dairy business my whole life here in Madison, seen a lot of ups and downs, and when it came to retirement planning a few years back, putting some of my 401k into physical gold just made sense. Always liked tangible assets, not just numbers on a screen. Currently sitting on about $700k in my total portfolio, with a good chunk of that in gold.
My question for you all is about American Eagles versus Buffalos for Gold IRA holdings. I've got mostly Eagles right now – the familiar design, the 22k durability. My advisor recommended them initially, and honestly, they feel like the standard, no-nonsense choice. But I've been reading more recently about the Buffalos, being 24k pure gold, and it's got me wondering if I missed something. Is the purity a big enough differentiator to justify choosing them over Eagles, or even exchanging some of my current holdings down the line?
I know the premium can be a bit higher on Buffalos sometimes, and the 24k softness makes me a tad nervous about handling, though it's not like I'm carrying these around like pocket change. We're talking about IRA holdings, so they're in a vault. Just curious if any of you have a strong preference one way or the other, especially for an IRA specifically. Did you intentionally choose one over the other for specific reasons? Or is it really just splitting hairs at the end of the day when it comes to long-term value?
Looking forward to hearing what you all think.
