Thought I’d share my recent experience with my Gold IRA, figuring some of you might be in a similar boat. I’ve been heavily weighted in gold for years now, ever since I retired from the tech world a decade ago. It’s been my bedrock, providing that stability I appreciate, especially watching the market swings from my patio here in Palm Beach. Had a significant chunk of my 401(k) rolled into precious metals, and it's been largely gold, probably 85-90% of my ~2.5M metals allocation.
Lately, though, I’ve been feeling a bit… exposed? My advisor and I had a few chats over the past quarter, and while gold’s done its job admirably, the industrial demand for silver kept coming up. It's not just a monetary metal; it's practically everywhere these days – solar panels, electronics, EVs. That dual nature, both a store of value and an industrial component, made me think. We decided it was time to rebalance a portion of my gold holdings into silver. Not a massive shift, but enough to feel like I’m capitalizing on that industrial upside without truly diluting my core gold conviction.
The process was fairly straightforward for a partial rollover. We moved about 15% of my gold allocation into silver, specifically American Silver Eagles and some Canadian Maples. I like the recognizable sovereign mints. The long-term outlook for silver, particularly given global electrification trends and continued fiat currency concerns, just feels incredibly compelling right now. I’m still a gold bug at heart, don't get me wrong, but adding silver feels like a prudent move for diversification and potential growth. Anyone else been making similar adjustments to their precious metals portfolio recently? What factors influenced your decisions?
