Thought I'd throw this out there for anyone weighing their options. I’ve been a pretty firm gold guy since I started my Gold IRA a few years back – had about $300k in the account, all gold bullion. Figured it was the ultimate safe haven, especially with all the volatility lately. We’re doing alright with the construction company here in Chicago, but you never know what’s around the corner, and I’m a big believer in having tangible assets you can literally hold onto.
Lately though, I’ve been feeling a bit antsy with just gold. Don't get me wrong, gold's still a cornerstone, but I kept looking at the gold/silver ratio and thinking about the industrial demand for silver. It’s not just a precious metal; it's used in everything from solar panels to electronics. That dual appeal – monetary and industrial – really started to click for me. Plus, let's be real, you get more bang for your buck in terms of ounces with silver, which feels good when you're stocking up for the long haul. I've only moved about $50k of my IRA into silver so far, mostly 100oz bars, but I'm thinking of adding more in the new year.
My thinking was, if things really go sideways, silver might actually outperform gold due to its lower price point and critical industrial applications. It feels like a more accessible and perhaps even more essential metal in a truly disrupted economy. Has anyone else made a similar move? What were your reasons? Any regrets or things you wish you'd considered initially?
