I’ve been a strong believer in gold for my retirement portfolio for a good while now – probably since early 2020. My Gold IRA's sitting comfortably around the $180k mark, and it’s been a solid performer, especially with all the economic weirdness lately. For me, it’s always been about preserving wealth for the long haul, not just chasing quick gains. Running a horse farm outside Louisville, you learn to appreciate things that hold their value through thick and thin.
Lately, though, I’ve been doing more research, and the idea of adding silver to the mix has really started to appeal. I decided recently to put about $20k of my next contributions into a Silver IRA. My reasoning is pretty straightforward: silver still provides that tangible asset protection, but with a bit more upside potential given its industrial uses. It feels like a smart way to get even more diversity without straying from the precious metals playbook. Kind of like having a few different breeds on the farm – each has its own strengths.
I used the Gold IRA Quiz early on when I was first looking into this whole thing, and it really helped clarify some of the rules and processes. I'd definitely recommend it if you're on the fence about getting started or just want to brush up on things. For me, it helped me understand the different storage options and what custodians were out there.
Anyone else here diversified their precious metals IRA beyond just gold? What were your thoughts? I'm curious if any of you have seen different performance between gold and silver in your IRAs, or if you have specific types of silver you prefer for investment. Always good to hear what other practical investors are doing.
