    Hey everyone,

Just came across this video about the 2019 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN0UAxfyq4s. Wow, what a stunning coin! I've always been a fan of the Libertad series – the design is just so classic and elegant. I've got a few of the 1 oz versions tucked away in my retirement stash, but I've never pulled the trigger on one of the larger pieces. That 5 oz is massive and looks incredible in hand. The low mintage on these definitely adds to the appeal, and I've seen how well older Libertads have held their value, even beyond the spot price of silver. It makes me wonder if I should diversify a bit more into some of these larger, more numismatic pieces, especially considering my son will eventually inherit my stack and I want him to have quality.

I know some of you guys are big into silver, too. What are your thoughts on collecting the larger Libertad sizes? Do you think the premium is worth it for these lower-mintage, larger coins, or do you stick to the more liquid 1 oz rounds? I'm always looking for ways to enhance my portfolio and make smart long-term decisions, especially with the current market volatility. Any insights or experiences with these beauties would be greatly appreciated!

That's a stunning piece, truly. I grabbed a couple of similar 5oz Libertads back in 2020 through my Gold IRA while diversifying beyond just gold eagles. Have any of you noticed price discrepancies on these larger silver collector coins when comparing different IRA custodians, or is it fairly standard across the board once you account for assay/storage?

Totally agree – the Libertads are stunning. My biggest piece of advice, especially for these larger, more ornate pieces, is to always invest in a quality air-tite capsule immediately. I learned that the hard way with a 2017 5oz I picked up down in Scottsdale; a tiny bit of humidity after a spring storm up here in Aspen and a slight discoloration appeared, dropping its resale value considerably. Don't cheap out on the protection for these beautiful assets.

Wow, these photos are absolutely stunning. I picked up a few of the 1oz Silver Libertads from a dealer down in Palo Alto last year, and they're gorgeous enough as is, but this 5oz piece just takes it to another level. Seriously considering adding one to the precious metals allocation of my portfolio before the end of the quarter. Thanks for sharing these; really appreciate the detailed shots and specs.

That 5oz Libertad is gorgeous, I almost pulled the trigger on one of those when I was first building out my physical holdings a few years back. Ended up going with more 1oz American Eagles for divisibility, but I still admire the aesthetics of the Libertad series. For anyone new to precious metals looking at the different options, I found the Gold Alliance comparison tool for premiums on various sovereign coins super helpful when I was first starting out with my Gold IRA. It really breaks down where you're getting the most bang for your buck.

Honestly, those 5 oz Libertads are gorgeous, no doubt. But for a bullion investor, especially someone like me who's trying to build a bit of a nest egg in Tulsa, I've always found them a tough sell. The premiums on these beauties just eat into your potential gains, and when the goal is real wealth preservation, I'd rather have another 1.5 oz of actual silver in generic rounds than a fancy 5 oz piece that cost me 30% over spot.

That Libertad is gorgeous! I've been eyeing a few for my physical stack, but primarily my precious metals are in my Gold IRA. As someone living in Seattle, the market here is bonkers, so knowing my retirement funds are diversified beyond volatile tech stocks gives me some peace of mind. If you're near retirement like I am, the RMD Calculator at RMDCalculator.goldirablueprint.com is super helpful for planning out those distributions from your IRA.

That's a gorgeous coin, no doubt. I picked up a few of the 2 oz versions a while back for my Gold IRA, but the 5 oz is a whole different beast. For those who've held both the 2 oz and the 5 oz Libertad, does the added weight of the 5 oz affect its liquidity much if you ever needed to sell quickly, say through a local Virginia Beach dealer, compared to the more common 1 oz or 2 oz pieces?

@Brian Edwards That’s a great tip, Brian. I learned that the hard way with a few of my earlier silver eagles before I got serious about my Gold IRA. Speaking of securing your investments, I recently found this fantastic article on **Investopedia** about the different types of gold storage options for IRAs – it really broke down the pros and cons of segregated vs. commingled storage, which was super helpful as I'm looking to add more to my Roth Gold IRA this year. As someone who's put about 75k into my Gold IRA so far, mostly from rolling over an old 401k, making sure everything is protected is top priority.

That 5oz Libertad is a stunner for sure. I've been eyeing some of the fractional Gold Libertads for my own Gold IRA. Speaking of which, for anyone wanting to compare the various premiums and historical performance of different gold products, I found this really useful "Gold Price Per Ounce Calculator" tool on the APMEX site. It’s helped me decide between bars and coins for my portfolio back when I was first building it up in Lexington.

That 5 oz Libertad is a stunner, no doubt. My first big silver purchase, back in late 2019, was actually a pair of those when silver was still hovering around $17 an ounce. I remember feeling a bit anxious dropping nearly two grand on just two coins, but knowing they were going into my Gold IRA gave me that extra layer of security. Since then, the value has definitely been a nice little bonus on top of their sheer beauty.

That 5 oz Libertad is a stunner, no doubt. My first significant silver piece, back in '09 when I really started diversifying beyond stocks, was a couple of those hefty 5 oz ATB America the Beautiful quarters. Picked 'em up from a local dealer down here in Palm Beach after a particularly rough Q4 in the market. Saw the writing on the wall with the inflated equities and thought, "Time to put some real weight in the vault." They’re still proudly sitting in my home safe, though most of my serious precious metals are now in the IRA. There's just something about the tactile feel of that much silver, knowing it’s a tangible asset, that stocks just can't replicate.

@Linda Taylor That Libertad *is* a stunner, I'll give you that! My own portfolio is skewed a bit differently, though. While my Gold IRA forms the core of my metals holdings – about $180k of it – I've found more peace of mind with the physical bullion. Living down here in Savannah, the real estate market isn't as insane as Seattle, but having a good chunk of my gold physically stored in a secure vault just feels more tangible, less abstract than the IRA. It’s a different kind of security, I guess.

Absolutely gorgeous piece. I'm relatively new to the gold and silver IRA scene -- just got into it seriously about 18 months ago, rolling over a decent chunk of an old 401k. What are the tax implications of liquidating a large physical silver holding like this if I needed to down the road? Is it treated like a stock sale, or are there special rules for precious metals? Would love to hear from anyone who's navigated that process.

Those 5oz Libertads are gorgeous, no doubt. But for a precious metals portfolio with any real weight, I've always leaned more towards the American Gold Eagles or Canadian Maple Leafs for liquidity reasons. Trying to offload a large quantity of specialty silver like that in Salt Lake last year was a bit of a headache; definitely a wider spread than the more recognized sovereign gold coins, even with their stunning design.

@Ronald Morris, you're absolutely right, the 5 oz Libertad is a beast! My first move into a Gold IRA, back in '08 when the financial world felt like it was melting, was actually with some 1 oz Krugerrands. My advisor, bless his meticulous heart, kept pushing me toward the more divisible units for liquidity. But after seeing a 5 oz Libertad at a local bullion dealer in Scottsdale – it was just *stunning* – I went against his advice a bit and picked up two for my account the following year. I just couldn't resist the sheer presence of it. They've been a fantastic anchor, and honestly, the aesthetic appeal makes me feel better about my diversification strategy.

Oh man, I totally get where you're coming from on those Libertads! I snagged a few of the 2019 5oz myself a couple of years back. There's just something about the detail and that heft in your hand that makes them stand out in the stack. Seriously, walking into my safe deposit box here in Vegas and seeing those beauties always puts a smile on my face, much more than just looking at a number on a screen.

That 5 oz Libertad is stunning, an absolute classic! While I primarily focus my gold IRA on bullion for the weight and purity, it’s hard to resist the artistic appeal of some of these larger silver pieces for my personal collection. They definitely make you appreciate the beauty of precious metals beyond just their investment potential. Thinking back to when I was doing my 401k rollover a few years ago, I almost pulled some funds for a few of these, but ultimately stuck to my plan for maximum tax advantages with the core gold holdings. Still, a beauty!

Man, that's a gorgeous coin, no doubt about it. I remember back in '21, I was seriously eyeing some of those larger Libertads for my Gold IRA – had about 80k in there at the time. My financial advisor in Denver, though, kept nudging me away from the big silver, urging more gold for its concentration of value. Now, looking at this beauty, I can't help but wonder if my advisor's unwavering focus on gold's "store of value" over silver’s "industrial utility" might have made me miss out on holding a real piece of art like this, even if it's not the most efficient asset per ounce.

@Joseph Harris That's a great point about security, Joe. I just rolled over about $150k from an old 401k into a Gold IRA earlier this year, and I'm still feeling my way around. I'm down here in El Paso, so I'm wondering if you ship yours or if you've ever used a local vault? The company I used recommended their storage partner in Delaware, which feels a bit far for comfort sometimes.

@Maria Campbell, that's awesome you're doing your research now. I truly wish I had stumbled upon communities like this back in 2020. I remember the panic clear as day – sitting in my Richmond office watching the market just *plummet*. My 401k, which I'd been so proud of, felt like it was bleeding out. My wife, bless her, was trying to reassure me, but I knew we needed something more stable for our future, especially with our daughter starting school soon. That's when I really dug into Gold IRAs. It wasn't about getting rich quick; it was about peace of mind, knowing a portion of our savings was insulated from that kind of widespread volatility. The process wasn't as complicated as I thought, and honestly, the sense of security I have these days is worth every penny.

That 5 oz Libertad is a beauty! Seeing posts like this always reminds me why I diversified some of my retirement savings into physical precious metals. I'm in Raleigh, NC, and a few years back, I did a 401k rollover into a gold IRA, and it's been a great decision for the tax advantages alone, not to mention the peace of mind. My portfolio, in the 50-100k range for precious metals, feels way more secure now.

That 5oz Libertad *is* beautiful, no argument there. But honestly, as someone who moved 7 figures from equities into my Gold IRA back in '21, seeing folks chase these numismatics makes me wonder what their core strategy even is. If you're not stacking physical for the long haul, leveraging the tax advantage, you're just buying shiny art while the real wealth preservation plays are sidelined.

Those Libertads really are stunning; I picked up a couple 1oz last year when my Gold IRA custodian recommended diversifying some of my cash position into silver. They did the whole "allocated storage" thing for me down in Wilmington, DE, which was a nice perk. My question is, for anyone who holds these heavier 5oz pieces, how are you valuing them now against the spot price for smaller increments? Are you seeing much of a premium on resale for the larger sizes, or do they move slower? I'm wondering if I should stick to the 1oz for easier liquidity here in Albuquerque.

    steven_mitchell🏆Advanced (250-500k)Real Investor✓ Verifiedabout 1 month ago

Man, those Libertads really are special. I remember picking up a couple of 2015 5 ozers when the spot price was, what, around $16-17? That felt like a big chunk of my portfolio at the time, probably $1600-1700 easily when you factored in the premium. No regrets though, watching those beauties age and hold their value, even a few years ago when I needed to liquidate a portion to contribute to my Gold IRA, was a stark reminder of why I got into precious metals in the first place. You can look at a digital number on a screen all day, but holding something like that… that’s different.

@Brian Edwards You're spot on about the air-tites for Libertads – especially the 5 oz. I learned that the hard way with a gorgeous 2017 I picked up at Fidelity's gold event a few years back. Thought it was safe in the velvet pouch, only to notice some subtle toning along the edge after a year. Nothing major, but definitely impacted the aesthetic a bit. Now, everything goes straight into a capsule, even my standard American Eagles. For something like a Libertad, with its intricate details, it's non-negotiable for preserving that premium look.
