Curious to hear about everyone's experiences with their Gold IRA custodians. I’ve been with Equity Trust for going on three years now, and for the most part, it's been pretty smooth sailing. My husband and I rolled over about $70k from an old 401k account into physical gold and silver, and honestly, the process was way less stressful than I imagined, especially with them guiding me through it. I’m a farmer’s wife here in Kansas City, and let me tell you, I like my wealth something I can actually see and touch, not just numbers on a screen. That's why the gold IRA made so much sense to us, but the custodian is a big piece of that puzzle.
My main gripe, and it's a small one, is sometimes it feels like getting a human on the phone takes a little longer than it should. When I first set things up, I called them pretty frequently with questions about different metals and storage options. Now that things are settled, it's less of an issue, but it made me wonder if there are better options out there for responsiveness. Are there any smaller, more boutique custodians that offer a more personalized touch?
I’m also starting to think ahead to when those Required Minimum Distributions will kick in. I stumbled across this tool called the RMD Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint and it's been really helpful for me to map out what that might look like down the road. Has anyone had to deal with RMDs yet from their Gold IRA? How did your custodian handle the distribution process? Did you take it in cash, or did you liquidate some of your physical assets?
Planning for the future always feels a bit overwhelming, but having tangible assets definitely gives me peace of mind in these uncertain times. Would love to hear if anyone has had particularly good or bad experiences with specific custodians. Who would you recommend (or tell me to avoid!), and why?
