    Key Takeaways
    • Alright, so I’m really evaluating my custodian situation for my precious metals, and honestly, the options feel a bit overwhelming.
    • I've got a decent chunk, probably north of 5 million in various metals right now, between direct holdings and some IRA accounts.
    • My current setup has been… fine, I guess.

Alright, so I’m really evaluating my custodian situation for my precious metals, and honestly, the options feel a bit overwhelming. I've got a decent chunk, probably north of 5 million in various metals right now, between direct holdings and some IRA accounts. My current setup has been… fine, I guess. But with the way the market's been acting, and considering I'm looking to add another couple of mil in gold and silver over the next 12-18 months, I want to make sure I’m locked in with a rock-solid, well-regarded custodian. Especially for the stuff sitting in an IRA structure.

I know a lot of you guys here are pretty deep into the PM space, so I'm curious what your experiences have been. Who are you using for your Gold IRA custodians? What specifically do you like about them? I'm looking for reliability, obviously, but also want to hear about fee structures – are they transparent? Any hidden charges that popped up? And what about the customer service? Because if I need to access my holdings or make a move, I don’t want to be stuck in some automated phone tree nightmare while the market's doing its thing.

I split my time between Aspen and some California properties, but my primary base and business is out here in CO. I've heard some decent things about Equity Trust and Kingdom Trust, and a few others pop up in searches, but the online reviews can be so mixed. It's hard to tell what’s legitimate feedback from an actual high-net-worth individual versus someone complaining about a technicality. I’m a real estate developer, so I know a thing or two about due diligence, but this feels like a different beast. Any horror stories or glowing recommendations would be appreciated. What’s the consensus on the best in class right now for large PM holdings?

Hey, that's a good chunk of change you're dealing with! With that kind of value, you really want a custodian that offers top-tier security and insurance, not just good rates. Have you looked into Brink's or Delaware Depository? They're often cited as the gold standard for high-net-worth investors due to their robust infrastructure and comprehensive insurance policies. Might be worth getting a quote from them to compare with your current setup.

Totally feel this. I was in a similar boat a few years back, though with a much smaller chunk, haha. The sheer number of options and trying to decipher all the fee structures was a headache. I ended up going with a company that kept things super transparent and had great customer service, which for me, was huge. Good luck with the hunt!

5 million in precious metals, wowzers! That's a serious portfolio.

You mentioned "direct holdings" and "IRA accounts" – are you looking for a custodian that can handle both under one roof, or are you comfortable with separate arrangements for each?

Honestly, with $5M+ in metals, 'fine' custodians might not cut it. While some of the big names are reliable, I'd argue for looking beyond just the usual suspects. Boutique firms or those specializing in high-net-worth precious metals accounts often offer a much more personalized service and better security protocols than the larger, more generalized custodians. You're not just a number to them. Just a thought to widen your net a bit beyond who everyone else is using.
