Alright, so I’m finally pulling the trigger on getting a Gold IRA set up, and honestly, the custodian part is where I’m getting a little hung up. Got about $180k sitting around I want to move into physical gold. Been in the casino industry here in Vegas for like 25 years, so I understand risk like the back of my hand, but this specific type of account is new territory. I'm definitely looking at gold rounds for the bulk of it, maybe some bars too.
My main concern right now is finding a custodian that’s reliable, transparent, and ideally has decent fees without hidden crap. I’ve seen some names pop up like Equity Trust and Kingdom Trust, maybe even Strata. Anyone have direct experience with these guys, especially recently? Good, bad, ugly? My biggest fear is getting locked into some nightmare customer service situation or finding out their storage fees are astronomical after the fact. I’m thinking long-term here, so a stable partner is key.
Also, given I'm in Nevada, any recommendations for custodians that might have a good reputation or even local connections out here? Not a deal-breaker, since it's all handled digitally mostly, but curious. What kind of questions did you all make sure to ask your custodian before signing on the dotted line? Trying to compile a solid list so I don't miss anything crucial. Any pointers on negotiating fees or getting certain disclosures upfront would be awesome too.
