Alright, so I’m really trying to get my ducks in a row for my Gold IRA. I’ve got about $180k in a mix of retirement accounts that I'm looking to roll over, and frankly, the custodian part of the puzzle is giving me the most heartburn. As a military contractor, security and trustworthiness are literally part of my job description, and I need that reflected in folks handling my money, especially my physical gold.
I’m based out here in Jacksonville, FL, and while I know a lot of this stuff is handled digitally these days, I'd still prefer to know I'm dealing with a reputable, established institution. I’ve been doing some digging on companies like Equity Trust and Kingdom Trust, and they seem to pop up a lot. Anyone have direct experience with them, good or bad? What about fees – are there any hidden charges I should be looking out for? I'm trying to make a move on this within the next 3-6 months, so I'm not in a super rush, but I definitely want to make an informed decision.
My biggest concern, honestly, isn't just the setup but the ongoing administration. I want a custodian that's responsive and efficient if I ever need to make changes or inquire about my holdings. Had a nightmare with a previous brokerage firm years ago, and I absolutely refuse to let that happen again, especially when we’re talking about precious metals. Any recommendations for custodians known for their excellent customer service and transparency?
I've been hitting the books pretty hard, using resources like the Learning Center to really understand all the ins and outs, especially regarding storage and insurance. But nothing beats real-world experiences from people who are actually in the trenches with this stuff. So, for those of you with Gold IRAs, who do you trust with your physical assets, and why? Any Jacksonville locals out there with specific recommendations or warnings?
