I'm looking into diversifying some of my Gold IRA holdings into silver bullion and am starting to compare custodian fees for rolling over some funds. I've got a decent chunk, about 750k in my current Gold IRA, and I'm a lawyer here in Philly, so I'm hyper-focused on all the fine print and making sure I'm not getting hosed on fees in the long run. My primary goal, like many of us, is wealth preservation, and I want to make sure the costs don't eat into those returns more than necessary.
My current custodian charges a flat annual fee, which has been fine for my gold holdings, but I'm wondering if a percentage-based fee might be better or worse for silver, especially with potential price fluctuations. I'm considering moving around 100k of my current IRA into silver bars initially. Does anyone have experience comparing different fee structures for silver specifically? Are there custodians that offer better rates for larger silver holdings, or is it pretty much a flat rate across the board once you hit a certain value?
I'm primarily interested in storing 100oz and 1000oz silver bars. Beyond just the annual maintenance, what about transaction fees for buying/selling within the IRA? Also, any hidden costs I should be looking out for? I've seen some talk about "storage fees" being separate from "custodian fees" – is that something to be truly concerned about, or is it usually all bundled together for reputable companies?
I'm trying to get a comprehensive picture before I start reaching out to specific companies. Any advice or experiences with different custodians and their fee structures for silver IRAs would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance for any insights!
