Been seeing a lot of chatter lately on here about Birch Gold Group, particularly from folks with larger portfolios. Made me think about my own journey, especially when I first dipped my toes into the Gold IRA world about 15 years ago. I've been in and out of the oil fields around Dallas for decades, and saw enough boom-bust cycles to know you need something tangible when things go sideways. Gold was my answer, always has been.
My initial rollover into a Gold IRA wasn't massive, probably around $75k back then. I actually went with Birch back at the start. I know some of you are throwing around a quarter, half a million, even more with them now, but I distinctly remember them being pretty solid for that smaller initial transfer. My rep, I think his name was Mark, was patient. He laid out the setup, the fees (which felt reasonable for the service at the time), and the custodians they worked with. Didn't try to upsell me on anything outlandish, just focused on getting that initial chunk secured. I wasn't buying massive bars, just some common coins and smaller rounds to start.
Now, my portfolio has grown considerably over the years, obviously. That initial $75k is a mere fraction of what I've got diversified now. I’ve branched out to other dealers for different reasons, mostly for variety or specific products, but Birch definitely set the foundation for me. I've always been curious if their service level for those initial smaller accounts has stayed consistent. Are they still giving the same attention to someone rolling over $50k or $75k today as they did for me back then?
Anyone here started with Birch on the smaller end recently? Say below $100k? What was your experience like with the reps, the fee structure, and the overall process? Are they still a good entry point for someone just getting into the physical precious metals game?
