Gold IRA Custodian - Who are you guys using?
- •I’ve currently got about 15% of my portfolio in gold and silver – somewhere in the low six figures – as part of my overall diversification strategy.
- •My current custodian has been… fine.
- •My biggest concern right now is the ease of tracking everything and, eventually, taking those Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).
Okay, so I'm a bit torn on my Gold IRA custodian situation and wanted to see what others are doing, especially those of you with a decent chunk invested. I’ve currently got about 15% of my portfolio in gold and silver – somewhere in the low six figures – as part of my overall diversification strategy. Being a doctor here in Boston, I’ve seen enough market volatility to know that having some tangible assets outside of stocks and bonds is just plain smart. My current custodian has been… fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible, but I’m wondering if there’s a better fit out there as I start to think more seriously about future distributions.
My biggest concern right now is the ease of tracking everything and, eventually, taking those Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). I've been doing some research online, and I recently stumbled across this RMD Calculator https://rmdcalculator.goldirablueprint.com/, which was actually super helpful for visualizing what to expect down the line. It really got me thinking about how smooth or clunky that process could be with my current setup. I'm looking for a custodian that's got a solid reputation, transparent fees (which seems like a Unicorn these days), and ideally, an intuitive portal for managing things.
For those of you with significant gold holdings in your IRA, who are you using and why? Have you had any particularly bad or surprisingly good experiences you'd be willing to share? Are there specific things I should be looking for or red flags to absolutely avoid? I'm trying to be proactive now rather than scrambling when I hit 73!
