Gold IRA Custodian - Who are you guys using?
- •My allocation is pretty heavy into specific numismatics and some of the more premium bullion coins – 20Francs, Britannia’s, some pre-33 stuff.
- •We're talking north of $1.5M in this account alone.
- •So far, so good, I guess?
I've been stacking physical for years now, mostly through various dealers I've built relationships with around Scottsdale, but finally got around to rolling over a good chunk of an old 401k into a Gold IRA earlier this year. Ended up going with Equity Trust, mostly because they seemed to be the most frequently mentioned by the financial advisors I spoke with and had a decent enough online reputation. My allocation is pretty heavy into specific numismatics and some of the more premium bullion coins – 20Francs, Britannia’s, some pre-33 stuff. We're talking north of $1.5M in this account alone.
So far, so good, I guess? The initial setup was a bit clunky, felt like a lot of paperwork back and forth, but nothing I couldn't handle. The storage at Delaware Depository seems secure enough, though I haven't had any reason to actually visit or request a withdrawal – hopefully won't for a long, long time. What I'm really curious about is the long-term experience. Equity Trust's fees seem reasonable enough for a portfolio of this size, but I'm always looking for ways to optimize, especially when you consider the potential compounding effect over decades.
Are any of you guys with portfolios of similar size (let's say 7-figures+ in precious metals) using other custodians you're particularly happy with? I’m an entrepreneur, so I’m used to scrutinizing everything and I’m just wondering if I left any meat on the bone, so to speak. Are there better options out there for diversification of storage or maybe more streamlined reporting for tax purposes? I’m not really looking for advice on if I should have a Gold IRA, more about the who and how of the custodian experience once you're already in.
Any headaches or exceptional service stories with specific custodians? What are your thoughts on annual fees versus transaction fees for larger accounts? Would love to hear some diverse opinions here. Thanks in advance for any insights.
