Love these. I picked up a roll of the 2022s from APMEX when they had a dip. Always good to diversify the silver stash beyond just Eagles and Maples, especially with the tighter mintages on some of the Koala years. They hold their premium well for a bullion coin, in my experience.

I actually picked up a tube of these back in 2022 when silver dipped a bit. Always been a fan of the Perth Mint quality, and the Koala design is just classic. Premiums have gone up a bit since then, but I like having some variety beyond just Eagles and Maples in my stack.

Regarding the Koala coins, they're beautiful and definitely add a nice aesthetic touch to a silver IRA, but don't get too caught up in the numismatic premium unless you're a serious collector. For a portfolio of our size, I'm focusing on the bullion value primarily. I prefer the Perth Mint's Kookaburra series if I'm looking for a bit more detail; the Koalas tend to be a bit more subtle year-to-year. Both are solid choices for diversifying with sovereign mint silver, just be mindful of the markup.

Love the design on those Koala coins, but honestly, the premiums felt a little high for me when I was looking to add silver to my IRA holdings last year. I ended up focusing more on American Eagles for the silver portion. Pro tip: use the Eligibility Checker first - saved me a lot of hassle figuring out which specific coins were IRS-approved for my Gold IRA. Just made the whole process smoother from my end in Dublin.

I’ve been eyeing those Koalas for a while, especially after GIRAB pointed out their lower premiums compared to some other popular bullion. For those of us keeping smaller stashes, say <100k, does the lower mintage on the Koalas actually translate to better resale value down the line compared to, say, a standard American Silver Eagle, or is the premium savings the main draw? From Providence, I'm always looking for those marginal gains.

Those Koalas are beautiful, but I’ve always found the Royal Mint's Britannia series to be a more liquid option if you ever need to sell back to a dealer. I used this article from JM Bullion comparing sovereign mint coins (https://www.jmbullion.com/investing-guide/buying-physical/sovereign-vs-private-mints/) when I was first building out my physical holdings. It really helped clarify premiums and buy-back spreads.

Funny, I just picked up a tube of these last month. Was looking to diversify a bit from the Maples and Eagles I usually stack. My dealer down here in Birmingham had a decent premium on them, not as tight as the Maples sometimes, but the design is just gorgeous. My wife actually chose them; she liked the koala change-up from the usual stoic wildlife. Ended up grabbing 25 – felt good to add some international flair to the vault.

Yeah, I remember picking up a couple of these 1oz Koalas back in '16. Was still fairly new to collecting physical silver then, mostly bullion bars, but my dealer up in Peabody mentioned they were a good option for fractional and had some decent numismatic upside without going full-on proof. Held onto them since, and they've definitely outperformed some of my basic Maples just based on the design appeal. Thinking about grabbing a few more of the 2024s if I can find them at a decent premium.

@Mark Adams, you're not wrong about Britannias. They're definitely a solid, recognizable coin. I've got a pile of them myself – my local dealers in Lexington always seem to have them in stock and they're quick to make an offer. But those Koalas… there’s something about the yearly design change that makes them a fun addition, even if they're not my primary liquidity play. Keeps the collecting bug satisfied without veering off into numismatic crazy town. Speaking of liquidity and planning, if you're nearing retirement, the RMD Calculator is super helpful for staying ahead of those required distributions. Learned that the hard way a few years back, had to liquidate a few things quicker than I wanted.

@Frank Rivera I hear you on the numismatic premium for Koalas, especially for a silver IRA. However, I've always found it a bit odd how fixated we are on *only* the melt value for gold and silver in these retirement accounts. To me, a small percentage of well-chosen semi-numismatic coins – even if it means a slightly higher premium – can offer a bit of diversification within the precious metals allocation, almost like a "collectible" sub-category. It might not be for everyone, but honestly, if you're not planning to liquidate it tomorrow, a few beautiful pieces can bring their own kind of intangible value, especially when looking at the long haul. On a related note, if you're near retirement, the RMD Calculator is super helpful for figuring out what you *will* have to pull out eventually, regardless of how pretty the coins are.

@Maria Campbell Totally agree on Perth Mint quality, though I'm more of a Kookaburra guy myself for silver. The premiums going up is definitely a sticking point for me, especially when you're trying to stack a decent amount for a Gold IRA. I can't help but wonder if sacrificing a bit of that "classic design" for lower premium generic rounds ultimately makes more sense in the long run for pure wealth preservation, especially for folks like me in Columbus, OH who are just starting out with smaller portfolios.

Been holding some of these for years. Pretty design, but honestly, the premiums on these government-minted coins can eat into your gains if you're not careful. I picked up 20oz of the 2018 Koalas with a lower premium back when silver was dipping under $18, but I've since found better value in larger bars for stacking pure weight. Just keep an eye on that spread.

I’ve been eyeing those Australian Koala silver coins but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. My Gold IRA is around six figures now and I'm looking to diversify a bit more into silver, but I keep going back and forth between bullion and something with a bit of numismatic appeal. For those of you holding them, do you find the premiums worth it in the long run compared to just basic silver Eagles or Maples? From Louisville, the shipping always seems to add up.

The Koalas are beautiful, but I'm primarily a gold guy for the IRA. Still, for a fun side stack, I picked up a tube of those back in 2021 when silver was bouncing around the mid-20s. My financial advisor back in Virginia Beach rolled his eyes, but hey, you gotta have some fun money, right? For anyone heavy into silver, you gotta check out the Silver vs Stocks tool here at https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y – it really puts things in perspective over the long haul. This GIRAB site has actually been a pleasant surprise compared to some of the shills out there.

@Mark Adams You're spot on about liquidity, Mark. It's a lesson I learned the hard way with some more obscure coins back in '08 when the market got choppy. While I love the Perth Mint's designs – their Koalas are truly beautiful – I always recommend putting the bulk of your silver in Britannias, Eagles, or Maples for that exact reason. I've found dealers in Houston are always eager for those, especially when I'm looking to rebalance.

Totally agree with the Koalas. I started diversifying into silver a few years back, and while my main focus is gold, those Koala coins are just beautiful. My custodian actually suggested them as a nice way to add some numismatic value to the silver stack without going full collector. They stack well too, which is a bonus when you're looking at storage.

@Janet Cook The Koalas are definitely smart for smaller stashes. I started out not too long ago as well, maybe about 18 months back, and was in a similar boat to you here in Savannah trying to figure out how to best allocate what I had without getting dinged on premiums with everything else. The *Learning Center* at https://learn.goldirablueprint.com/?forum has some great guides on premium analysis that really helped me make sense of it all. Made a huge difference in maximizing my dollar.

Just saw a mention of these in another thread. Are the premiums on these Koala coins usually higher than, say, a standard Silver Eagle or Maple? I'm still figuring out if it's better to stick to the most common bullion or branch out to some of the more "collectible" (but still investment-grade) stuff. My current custodian mentioned something about liquidity for less common coins, which put a bit of hesitation in my mind.

Those Koalas are beautiful coins. I picked up a tube of the 2023s last year when silver dipped to around $22/oz. premiums are definitely higher than buying rounds, but the numismatic potential and easy liquidity if you ever need to sell makes them worth it for me. Keep an eye on APMEX or JM Bullion for deals, sometimes they'll run specials.
