Okay, so I've been meaning to post this for a while, but with Q2 numbers and everything, time's been tight. Figured I'd give back a little to the community here since I've gleaned some decent insights from you all over the years. I rolled over a good chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals almost exactly two years ago, back in late 2022. I'm talking a seven-figure transfer, just shy of $1.5M, as part of my broader diversification strategy.
My main concern then, and still now, is protecting some wealth from the insane market volatility we've been seeing. Living in Greenwich, you see a lot of people chasing yield, and I've always been more conservative with a portion of my personal holdings. Augusta’s team walked me through the whole process, which, honestly, felt a bit hand-holdy at first, but for someone like me who just wanted it done efficiently without micromanaging, it was actually perfect. They assigned me an account exec who was always responsive, even when I had some pretty granular questions about specific coin premiums. I chose a mix of gold and silver bullion, mostly American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Silver Maples.
So, the big question: was it worth it? Financially, gold's performance has been solid, especially with recent geopolitical events. It’s given me peace of mind knowing a portion of my assets isn't tied directly to the whims of the stock market. The fees felt transparent enough, nothing that raised a red flag for my compliance team, which is always a good sign. Operationally, everything went as smoothly as you could expect for moving that kind of capital into physical assets and secure storage. They used Delaware Depository, which is standard.
One thing I found interesting for my other investments was really digging into the "Silver vs Stocks" tool on goldirablueprint.com. I've often only looked at gold in relation to stocks, but seeing how silver stacks up over a 10-year period (here: https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y) really opened my eyes to some different perspectives on precious metals as a whole. Anyway, has anyone else here used Augusta with similar portfolio sizes? What were your experiences with their buyback program, if you've ever dealt with that? I'm curious about the liquidity side down the road.
