Just wanted to share my Augusta Precious Metals experience for anyone on the fence or doing their research. I'm a doctor up here in Boston, and like a lot of you, I've got a fairly diversified portfolio – stocks, real estate, and a healthy chunk in gold and silver, especially with all the economic uncertainty swirling around. I'm sitting on around a $700k portfolio right now, and about 8-10% of that is in precious metals. I decided to go with Augusta about 18 months ago for a portion of my gold IRA and wanted to give some candid thoughts.
My main concern going into it was finding a company that was transparent and didn't pull any bait-and-switch tactics. I'd heard some horror stories from friends about other places. Augusta definitely impressed me on that front. Their team was incredibly helpful – I worked with a guy named Tom (don't think he's still there, but whoever replaced him is probably just as good) who walked me through everything from setting up the self-directed IRA to understanding the different coin options. I initially went with a mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Gold Maple Leafs. The process was smooth, not pushy at all, which I really appreciated. They explained their fees upfront, and I felt I had a solid understanding of what I was getting into.
The actual transfer of funds and acquisition of the metals was quick and painless. The coins arrived at the depository (Delaware Depository, I believe) without a hitch. I haven't needed to sell any yet, but I've kept an eye on their buyback program and it seems pretty competitive from what I can tell. Honestly, the biggest benefit for me has been the peace of mind knowing that a portion of my retirement is in a tangible asset, completely separate from the stock market roller coaster. Living in a high-cost-of-living area like Boston, every dollar counts, and I feel good about this hedge.
Anybody else here use Augusta? What's been your experience with them for buybacks or if you've had to make any adjustments to your holdings? Curious if my positive experience is the norm, or if I just got lucky with a good rep.
