Okay, so I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, especially after seeing a few other folks asking about different Gold IRA providers. I decided to go with Augusta Precious Metals back in early 2023. I'm a former tech executive out here in SF, so I'm used to everything being super slick and fast, and honestly, I was a little skeptical about moving into something as "old school" as physical gold and silver. But after seeing the market volatility and feeling like my old portfolio wasn't diversified enough, I pulled the trigger and moved about $350k of my retirement savings into a precious metals IRA.
The whole onboarding process with Augusta was surprisingly smooth. I worked with a guy named Tom (don't know if I'm allowed to name names, but whatever) and he was patient without being pushy – which was a huge plus for me. We spent a good chunk of time on calls going over the benefits, the risks, the types of coins, and even the storage options. I ended up choosing Delaware Depository, mostly because of the strong reputation and the fact that it's fully insured. They handled all the custodian paperwork, which was a relief because dealing with that stuff always makes my eyes glaze over.
What really impressed me was the educational aspect. They have a ton of free resources, and Tom made sure I actually understood what I was buying. I opted for a mix of gold and silver, leaning a bit more heavily into gold for the long-term stability. The actual transfer of funds from my old custodian to the new one was seamless, and I got confirmation of my metals being in storage way faster than I expected. No hidden fees or surprises so far, which is always a concern when you're moving a substantial chunk of change. Anyone else have a similar experience with Augusta, or different providers? I'm curious to hear how other people's transfers went.
