Alright, so I’ve been looking into getting some physical gold and silver into my retirement portfolio for a while now. My family has always been pretty conservative with investments, leaning heavily into timber and real estate, so precious metals just make a lot of sense for generational wealth preservation. I'm sitting on about $400k in various retirement accounts right now, and the thought of relying solely on paper assets in this current economic climate just makes me antsy.
After a ton of research, I decided to go with Augusta Precious Metals for my Gold IRA rollover. Honestly, their reputation online is stellar, and they seemed to really focus on education, which appealed to me since I'm still relatively new to direct precious metals investing. The setup process itself was pretty straightforward. I had a dedicated account rep who walked me through everything, from liquidating some old mutual funds to funding the new IRA. They were super patient with my questions, even the really basic ones. I ended up putting about $120k into a mix of gold and silver Eagles, plus some other sovereign coins. It's not a huge chunk of my total portfolio, but it's a solid start for diversification.
My only real "complaint" – and this is minor – is the slight feeling of being upsold on some of the premium coins. I get that they have a business to run and these coins have higher numismatic value, but for someone like me whose primary goal is wealth protection through bullion, it felt a little like they wanted me to spend more than I initially planned. Again, it’s not a huge deal, and I ultimately stuck to my guns with mostly bullion, but it’s something to be aware of if you go in. That being said, the actual delivery to the depository was smooth, and I received all the documentation promptly from their operations team.
Overall, I'd say my experience with Augusta was overwhelmingly positive. They definitely delivered on their promise of transparency and good customer service. I'm curious if anyone else here in the Spokane area has used them or another company for a Gold IRA? What were your experiences, especially with the fee structures? And for anyone just starting their research, I found this Gold IRA Quiz to be super helpful for understanding the basics and figuring out if it's the right move for you. Worth checking out.
