Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on a gold IRA a couple of months ago, and honestly, it’s been a huge relief. With all the ups and downs in the stock market lately and just the general sketchiness of the economy, it felt like the right move for some protection. I’m an audio engineer here in Nashville, so I’ve seen enough booms and busts in the music industry to know that diversifying isn’t just a good idea, it’s essential. My initial rollover was about $65k from an old 401k, which I know isn't a massive fortune compared to some of the whales out there, but it's a significant chunk for me.
I went with Augusta Precious Metals because their reviews looked solid, and their customer service was fantastic during the whole onboarding process. They walked me through everything with zero pressure, which I really appreciated. The whole process was smooth, and now seeing those physical assets in my account is a different kind of comfort than just seeing numbers on a screen. But it got me thinking – are there other companies out there that are particularly good for folks with portfolios in the $50k-$100k range?
I’m trying to stay on top of this and not just set it and forget it. I’m thinking about potentially adding a bit more down the line, maybe another $20k or so, depending on how things shake out. Are there specific companies known for lower minimums, or perhaps more competitive fees for smaller accounts? Or maybe just really great educational resources for someone who's still fairly new to this side of investing?
Would love to hear from anyone else who started small and if you had a particularly good experience with a specific company. What made them stand out? Any red flags to watch out for? I know a lot of these companies target the bigger investors, but surely there are good options for us "smaller fish" too, right?
