Anyone found a fantastic Gold IRA custodian? Currently with Equity Trust, wondering if there's better out there.
- •Okay, so I've been in on the Gold IRA thing for a few years now, maybe four or five years?
- •Got about 15% of my 401k rolled over into physically backed gold and silver right now, sits around the high five figures.
- •I started with Equity Trust as my custodian because that's who my initial precious metals dealer recommended.
Okay, so I've been in on the Gold IRA thing for a few years now, maybe four or five years? Got about 15% of my 401k rolled over into physically backed gold and silver right now, sits around the high five figures. I started with Equity Trust as my custodian because that's who my initial precious metals dealer recommended. Honestly, they've been... fine. No huge complaints, but no rave reviews either. Fees are what they are, statements are clear enough, and I haven't had any problems with transactions. But "fine" isn't exactly inspiring confidence when we're talking about a significant chunk of my retirement.
I'm an insurance agent here in Omaha, so I typically dig into the details and coverage for everything. With custodians, it feels a bit opaque sometimes. I'm wondering if anyone has had genuinely great experiences with a different custodian? What made them stand out? Was it lower fees, better customer service, more transparent reporting, or easier access if I ever did need to take a distribution? I'm trying to diversify my overall retirement strategy, and part of that is making sure every piece of the puzzle is as optimized as possible.
I know some people bash precious metals as a retirement vehicle, but honestly, having that tangible asset as a hedge against inflation and market volatility has helped me sleep better at night. Especially with everything going on in the world. It’s not my only basket, obviously, but it’s an important one for me. Any horror stories people have encountered, or specific things to look out for that aren't immediately obvious?
Thinking about potentially doing another rollover in the next year or two, probably another 25k-50k into the precious metals part, and if there's a better long-term custodian out there, I'd love to hear about them. Especially if they have a decent track record and competitive fees without a bunch of hidden charges. Thanks in advance for any insights!
