Anyone else stressin' about custodian fees and service? What's your experience?
- •My husband runs the farm here in Kansas City, and I manage finances, so I don't have a ton of extra time to just shop around endlessly.
- •The fees just feel like they've been creeping up, and I can't shake the feeling I could be doing better.
- •Does anyone have any custodians they absolutely love, or ones to steer clear of?
I've been a Gold IRA investor for a few years now, and while I absolutely believe in the power of tangible assets, especially with how things are looking these days, I've been getting a little antsy about my custodian. I've got a decent chunk, about $70k, sitting with them, and truthfully, I picked them mostly because they were the first ones I talked to after all my research. What I'm really looking for is good communication and transparent fees. I want to know what I'm paying for and why. It's not like I'm checking my account daily, but when I do have a question, I don't want to jump through hoops to get an answer. My biggest fear is getting close to RMD age and suddenly realizing I'm locked into high fees or a difficult process. I've even started looking at that RMD Calculator tool to just play around with some numbers, and it really brought home just how important a good custodian will be when those distributions start.
Are there specific things I should be asking potential custodians about that maybe I didn't think of the first time around? I'm open to moving my assets if there's a compelling reason. I'm a farmer's wife – we know how to weigh risks and rewards! I'm just feeling a bit out of my depth with the nuances of custodian services, even after all this time. Any advice or shared experiences would be so appreciated. It's just good to hear what others in a similar boat are doing.
