Anyone else find these Gold IRA fees a minefield? Rollover experience.

Okay, so I did a rollover of about $150k from an old 401k into a Gold IRA a few years back, after that whole 2008 mess scared the living daylights out of me. As a retired teacher here in Phoenix, I just wanted some stability, you know? Fast forward to now, and I'm looking at my statements, and it feels like I'm paying an arm and a leg in fees. I try to keep track, but between storage fees, admin fees, and whatever else they nickel and dime you for, it's hard to compare apples to apples between different companies.
I went with Augusta Precious Metals at the time because they had great reviews for customer service, and honestly, they helped make the rollover process itself pretty smooth. But I'm starting to wonder if I got complacent on the fees. Has anyone else done extensive comparisons between the major players? I'm thinking about Regal Assets, Goldco, American Hartford Gold, etc. Are there any hidden gems out there with lower annual costs, especially for someone with around a quarter-million invested?
It's always a balancing act, right? You want security and good service, but you don't want your precious metals to be eaten away by charges, especially when the market is doing its thing. I've been doing some research lately, even looking at things like the "Silver vs Stocks" tool on Gold IRA Blueprint (that's silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y if anyone's curious) to see how silver has been performing against the market – just trying to keep all my options open. But right now, the fee structure is my biggest headache.
What are your experiences with annual fees? Did you negotiate anything, or did you just pick a company and stick with them? Any advice for cutting down on these costs without sacrificing too much on the service side? It would be a huge help to hear from others who've been down this road.
