Anyone else feeling the squeeze from inflation and looking at gold?

Okay, so I've been a principal here in Little Rock for almost 15 years now, and teaching financial literacy to our high schoolers is something I'm really passionate about. But honestly, even with all my experience, watching what's happening with inflation lately has been a gut punch. I mean, the price of everything from groceries to getting a new water heater (don't even get me started on supply chain issues for that gem!) is just insane. Every trip to the store feels like I'm taking a hit. My regular investments are doing okay, but it feels like the value of my dollar is just evaporating.
I started looking into a Gold IRA a few months back, mostly as a hedge against this exact kind of scenario. I put about $75,000 of my retirement savings into physical gold, mostly American Gold Eagles, and I’m just curious if others out there are seeing it as a solid inflation protector too? So far, it's done exactly what I hoped it would – provided some stability and actually gone up a bit while my cash just seems to lose purchasing power daily. It's a huge relief to see that part of my portfolio holding its own.
My biggest concern now is really just the long-term outlook. We talk about inflation in my classes, but experiencing it this intensely is a whole different ballgame. I'm wondering what other strategies folks are employing to combat this crazy inflation with their precious metals? Are you diversified with silver too? I've been thinking about adding some silver to my Gold IRA next, maybe another $10,000, but I'm still weighing the pros and cons compared to just adding more gold. Any thoughts on that?
It’s really about protecting the nest egg I’ve been building so hard. I’ve always tried to lead by example with my students, and right now, that example involves trying to keep my head above water financially without just letting my savings dwindle away. What's everyone else in the community doing to protect their wealth from this inflationary pressure?
