Any decent Gold IRA custodians out there? My current one
- •Initially went with something I thought was a big name, but their fees have slowly crept up to astronomical levels.
- •I swear, they nickel and dime you for everything – storage, statements, even breathing near their office.
- •Based out of NYC, so I’m used to premium services, but this is beyond the pale.
Okay, so I’ve been heavily into precious metals for decades, and for the past ten years since I retired from the Street, a good chunk of my portfolio, probably hovering around $2M, is tied up in a Gold IRA. Initially went with something I thought was a big name, but their fees have slowly crept up to astronomical levels. I swear, they nickel and dime you for everything – storage, statements, even breathing near their office. Based out of NYC, so I’m used to premium services, but this is beyond the pale. Feels like I’m paying for a private jet and getting a bus pass.
My current setup feels like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. The process of moving that much metal, especially when it’s diversified between gold and some heavily allocated silver, gives me agita just thinking about it. But at this point, the irritation from these fees is eating away at me. I’m pretty hands-on with my investments, even in retirement, and the lack of transparent communication from their client services side is infuriating. I’ve called them out on it a few times, and they just parrot some corporate line about "market adjustments." Yeah, right.
So, I’m putting it out there: who are you guys using for your Gold IRA custodians? Specifically looking for recommendations that offer good value, transparent fee structures, and ideally, some form of decent customer support that doesn't feel like you're talking to a robot. Any experiences, good or bad, with specific companies would be super helpful. I'm especially keen to hear from anyone else with a larger metals allocation. Is there anyone out there who actually feels like their custodian is partnering with them, rather than just bleeding them dry?
I’m open to exploring options domestically, proximity isn't a huge factor for the actual storage since I’m not exactly going to be visiting the vault myself in Idaho. Just looking for a reliable, trustworthy outfit that won't make me pull my hair out every quarter. What’s worked for you?
