Okay, so I'm completely new to the gold and silver IRA game and honestly, feeling a little overwhelmed by all the information out there. I'm 28, based in Charleston, and trying to get my retirement ducks in a row early. Got about $10k–$15k saved up right now that I'm considering putting into a Gold IRA. I’m thinking long-term growth and protection against inflation, especially with all the talk about the economy right now. My current 401k is doing fine, but I want to diversify outside of traditional stocks and bonds.
I’ve been reading a bunch about different custodians and dealers, and frankly, some of the sales tactics I've seen online are a bit... aggressive. It makes me wonder if I'm missing something or if there are red flags I should be looking out for. Are there reputable companies that genuinely help you navigate this process without pressuring you into something? I also keep seeing different fees mentioned – setup fees, annual maintenance, storage fees. What’s considered reasonable?
For those of you who've already gone through this, what was your first step? Did you transfer funds from an existing IRA or 401k, or just fund it with fresh capital? I'm leaning towards a rollover from an old Roth 401k, but I also have some cash sitting in savings that I could use. Any specific type of gold or silver that's generally recommended for a beginner, or does it really just depend on personal preference and market conditions? Seriously, any advice you have for someone just starting out would be amazing. Thanks in advance!
