Added silver to the IRA, feeling pretty good about it

Finally pulled the trigger and added a decent chunk of silver to my Gold IRA, and honestly, it feels like a weight off my shoulders. I've been sitting on a pretty good gold position for years – roughly 700k of my portfolio is in physical gold, held securely, of course. For a long time, that felt like enough. Gold's my bedrock, the ultimate hedge against all the geopolitical and economic madness we see brewing, especially looking across the Pacific.
But lately, I've been feeling, I don't know, a bit exposed on one front. Gold’s great for the big picture, the “oh crap, the dollar’s toast” scenario. But what about the more immediate, practical side of things if supply chains really go sideways or inflation just keeps spiraling? Here in Honolulu, everything's imported, and I see those prices creeping up constantly. Silver just seems… more accessible, more practical. It's still a precious metal, still holds value, but it's also got industrial uses, which gives me confidence in its floor, even if it's more volatile than gold.
So, after talking with my advisor and doing a fair bit of my own digging, I decided to allocate about 10% of my precious metals holdings from new contributions into silver. Not emptying out the gold by any means, but diversifying within the metals. It’s comforting to have that extra layer of defense, especially looking at the ongoing tensions and the global economic forecast from my vantage point out here in the middle of it all. Retired military, so I’ve seen enough uncertainty to know that being prepared is never a bad thing.
Anyone else here feel that silver provides a different kind of security than gold? Or am I overthinking the practical utility aspect? Curious to hear other folks’ rationale for holding both.
