5 years into my Gold IRA - what a ride!

Hard to believe it's been five years since I first opened that Gold IRA. I remember feeling pretty green, honestly. Been in dairy my whole life, so the stock market always felt like a different language. But after talking to a few folks and seeing some of the instability back then, I decided to pull the trigger. Poured about 150k from a rollover into it initially, mostly thinking of it as a hedge against inflation and just something different than all my paper assets. My wife was a little skeptical, bless her heart, but she trusts my judgment, especially when it comes to long-term planning.
I distinctly remember gold was hovering around $1300-$1400 back then. It felt like a big chunk of change to move into something I couldn't actively "work" like a farm. For the first couple of years, it was pretty steady, maybe a slow climb. Nothing to write home about, but also not tanking like some of the tech stocks I'd seen others lose their shirts on. Then, holy cow, the last few years have been something else. Seeing it break over $2000, then just keep chugging along... it's been a real eye-opener.
My last statement showed my account value up around 250k. That's a roughly 66% return over five years without really doing anything but letting it sit there. When you break it down, that's pretty darn good, especially compared to some of the more "exciting" investments my buddies have been bragging (and then complaining) about. It's not like I'm planning to retire tomorrow, still got a few good years left in me in the dairy business here in Wisconsin, but having that gold really makes me feel a lot more secure about our future.
So, for those of you who've been debating it, I gotta say, for a practical, long-term play, it's been a solid performer for me. Not saying it's for everyone, or that it'll keep climbing at this rate forever, but it's been a great addition to my portfolio. What have others seen in their Gold IRAs over a similar timeframe? Any long-term holders also seeing these kinds of returns? Curious what everyone else's experience has been.
