5 years into my Gold IRA - feeling pretty good! (Albuquerque perspective)
- •Just hit my 5-year anniversary with my Gold IRA, and honestly, it feels good to look back.
- •I started this thing in 2019, right before all the craziness, with about $60k that I'd saved up.
- •Seeing what happened with inflation the last few years, I'm genuinely relieved I pulled the trigger then.
Just hit my 5-year anniversary with my Gold IRA, and honestly, it feels good to look back. I started this thing in 2019, right before all the craziness, with about $60k that I'd saved up. Didn't have a lot of experience with alternative investments, but as a government employee here in Albuquerque, I was looking for something to really shore up my pension down the line. Seeing what happened with inflation the last few years, I'm genuinely relieved I pulled the trigger then.
My portfolio is sitting just under $100k now, which is a pretty solid gain for five years, especially when you consider the volatility of other markets. I went mostly with American Gold Eagles and some Gold Buffalos, sticking to the more recognized stuff. I'm not looking to get rich overnight – this is more about wealth preservation and having a real asset that isn't tied to the whims of the stock market. Knowing that physical gold is sitting there, protected from Uncle Sam (for now, haha!), gives me a lot of peace of mind.
I know some folks talk about the fees associated with Gold IRAs, and yeah, there are custodian fees and storage fees to consider. But for me, the security and the diversification it offers outweighs those costs significantly. It’s part of a bigger plan to make sure my retirement is comfortable, especially since I'm aiming to retire in about 10-12 years. I've always been a bit cautious financially, and this really aligns with that mindset.
Anyone else hit a significant milestone with their Gold IRA recently? What are your thoughts on the performance of gold rounds vs. bars for long-term holds? Just curious to hear other perspectives now that I've got a bit more experience under my belt.
