Man, has it really been five years since I first dipped my toes into the Gold IRA world? Time flies when you're... well, watching your precious metals holdings (mostly gold, some silver) appreciate. I remember being so nervous back in 2019, finally taking the plunge after hearing the execs at the oil company I work for here in Tulsa talk about inflation and hedging. My initial investment was about $75k, which felt like a massive chunk of my savings at the time.
I'm happy to report that it's been a pretty steady climb. I mean, it wasn't straight up the entire time, there were some wobbles, but overall, seeing that portfolio grow from $75k to just shy of $110k now feels amazing. That’s not including the extra contributions I’ve made over the years, obviously. It’s given me such peace of mind, knowing I have something tangible protecting a good portion of my retirement savings from all the economic craziness. It's way more comforting than just leaving it all in stocks, even when the market's doing great.
I still remember doing endless research before I even thought about setting it up. I must have spent weeks reading articles and comparing companies. If anyone's on the fence or just starting their research, seriously, check out the Gold IRA Quiz. I wish I had something like that when I started – it would’ve saved me so much time trying to figure out the basics.
So, for those of you with Gold IRAs, what's been your experience over the last few years? Are your returns similar? And for those thinking about it, what's holding you back? I'm genuinely curious to hear everyone's perspectives. It's been a good journey for me so far, and I’m definitely planning on keeping this going for the long haul.
