5 years in with my Gold IRA - Spokane investor reflections
- •Just hit the five-year mark with my Gold IRA and figured I’d share some thoughts, especially for those on the fence or just starting out.
- •My initial allocation was around $280k back in 2019, primarily in American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples.
- •Saw a pretty decent dip in early 2020 like everyone else, and for a hot minute, I was wondering if I’d made a mistake.
Just hit the five-year mark with my Gold IRA and figured I’d share some thoughts, especially for those on the fence or just starting out. When I first diversified into precious metals, it was a bit of a gamble, but honestly, it felt like the smart play with everything going on in the world. My family’s always been pretty conservative with investments – lot of timberland and not much else – so the idea of physical assets in a retirement account really resonated.
My initial allocation was around $280k back in 2019, primarily in American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples. Saw a pretty decent dip in early 2020 like everyone else, and for a hot minute, I was wondering if I’d made a mistake. But, stuck with it, and man, am I glad I did. The trajectory since then has been pretty sweet. My account value is sitting comfortably over $450k now, which is a return I'm definitely not complaining about, especially considering the current inflationary environment and market volatility. It’s comforting knowing a significant chunk of my retirement isn't tied directly to the whims of the stock market.
I know some folks here are all about the aggressive growth stocks, but for someone like me looking to preserve generational wealth rather than just chase the next big thing, gold has been a solid anchor. It's not about getting rich quick, it's about being rich for a long time, you know? Plus, living here in Spokane, there's a certain appreciation for tangible assets. My dad always said, "They ain't making more land, and they sure ain't making more gold."
Curious to hear from others who have been in their Gold IRAs for a similar timeframe. What are your thoughts on your returns? Did you rebalance at any point, or just let it ride? And for folks who started more recently, what's your outlook for the next five years? I'm always looking to learn from other long-term investors.
