5 years in with my Gold IRA - Savannah biz owner's

Been seeing a lot of folks asking about long-term Gold IRA experiences, so figured I'd chime in with my journey. It’s been wild, especially running a tourism business down here in Savannah. Economic ups and downs are just part of the daily grind for me, and that’s a huge reason I dipped my toes into gold in the first place.
I started my Gold IRA about five years ago, right when things felt a bit shaky globally (doesn't it always?). Had built up a decent chunk in traditional investments, probably around $150k at the time, and decided to diversify. Rolled over about $40k into physical gold and silver. My thinking was, if the market tanks, at least I’ve got something tangible. Honestly, the process was smoother than I expected. Chose a company after a lot of research, and they handled the rollover from my old 401k without a hitch. Custodian was pretty good too, always answered my questions.
Fast forward to today, that initial $40k is sitting pretty nicely. I just checked my statement last week, and it’s showing a value north of $65k. That's a solid 60%+ return. Now, granted, the stock market’s had some good runs too, but the peace of mind knowing a chunk of my portfolio isn't tied to company earnings or quarterly reports is huge for me. Especially running a seasonal business like mine, stability is gold, literally.
I admit, there were times I wondered if I'd made the right call, particularly when gold prices plateaued for a bit. But seeing what’s happening with inflation lately, and just the general geopolitical landscape, I'm feeling pretty good about it. Thinking about adding another $10k this year, just to keep that diversification strong. Anyone else here a small business owner who uses precious metals as a hedge? What's your experience been like, especially with recent market volatility?
Curious to hear if others have seen similar growth or if I just got lucky with my timing. Always good to compare notes!
