5 years in with a Gold IRA - what a ride!

Hard to believe it's been five years already since I fully committed to this. I liquidated most of my tech startup equity back in late 2019, probably about $3.5M worth after taxes, and moved a significant chunk, around $1.8M, into a Gold IRA. My financial advisor thought I was a bit nuts at the time, especially with the bull run tech was on, but after seeing what's happened globally, I'm feeling pretty vindicated. Living here in Dublin, OH, you see a lot of folks tied to the market, and I just couldn't shake that feeling of instability.
Returns-wise, it's been pretty solid for me. I'm up roughly 40% on the initial investment, which beats the pants off what my more traditional investments have done in the same period. There's a certain peace of mind knowing that a big chunk of my net worth isn't subject to the whims of quarterly earnings calls or geopolitical jitters hitting the stock market. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, obviously, but for preserving and steadily growing wealth, it’s been fantastic. I mostly went with American Gold Eagles, a mix of 1/2 oz and 1 oz coins. There’s something tangible about them, you know?
My biggest concern now is actually planning for Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) down the line. I'm still a good decade or so out, but I like to plan ahead. Has anyone here used that RMD Calculator tool from Gold IRA Blueprint? I stumbled upon it recently and it seems pretty comprehensive, especially for estimating what those distributions might look like with a physical gold holding. Any thoughts or experiences with it?
Anyway, just wanted to share my journey so far. It’s been a good decision for me, and I'm interested to hear if others have had similar experiences, or even different ones! What kind of gold rounds or coins are you all holding?
