5 years in, Gold IRA still shining bright
- •Been a minute since I've posted anything substantial, but thought I'd share my 5-year experience with my Gold IRA.

Been a minute since I've posted anything substantial, but thought I'd share my 5-year experience with my Gold IRA. As a retired Hải quân (Navy, for you landlubbers) out here in Honolulu, watching the global economy from the Pacific has given me a bit of a different perspective, I think. When I first rolled over a chunk of my old 401k into a precious metals IRA five years ago, I was sitting on about $600k total in my retirement accounts. Decided to dedicate about 20% of that to gold, so around $120k initial investment.
My thinking then, and now, was pretty simple: diversification and a hedge against the fiat funny money circus. We've seen a lot of volatility globally, especially with all the printing presses going brrr. Looking at my current statements, that initial $120k is sitting pretty close to $185k now. Not going to lie, there were some nail-biting moments, especially during some of the market dips, but holding steady has definitely paid off. It's not the meteoric rise some tech stocks might see, but it's consistent, tangible growth that makes me sleep a lot sounder at night, knowing a good chunk of my wealth isn't just evaporating with the latest market whim.
I’ve kept a close eye on other metals too. Silver's always been something I've considered adding more of. Just yesterday I was playing around with the "Silver vs Stocks" tool on GoldIRAblueprint.com (super handy for comparing long-term trends, I was looking at the 10-year view), and it really highlights how certain assets perform over different cycles. It’s a good reality check when you get caught up in the daily news cycle. Thinking about rebalancing a bit soon and perhaps allocating another 5-10% into silver.
Anyone else hit the 5-year (or more) mark with their precious metals IRA? How are you feeling about your returns, especially with all the economic headwinds we're seeing? Thinking about adjusting your allocation at all? Always interested to hear what strategies others are employing.
