Hey everyone! Diane Bailey here from sunny Savannah, GA. Been a lurker for a while, but thought it was time to jump in and share my journey, especially since we're hitting a pretty interesting economic patch. As a tourism business owner, I've seen my share of ups and downs – 2008 felt like a punch to the gut, and let's not even talk about 2020. That's actually what pushed me seriously into a Gold IRA about five years ago, looking for something more stable than just stocks.
My initial investment was around $75,000, and I primarily focused on American Gold Eagles. I liked the recognition and liquidity. Over these five years, it's been a real rollercoaster, as I'm sure many of you can attest! I actually added another $25,000 back in late 2022 when prices dipped a bit, bringing my total invested capital to $100,000. Right now, my account is sitting around $138,000. That's a 38% gain over five years on paper – not too shabby, right? It might not be the astronomical returns some tech stocks saw, but for something designed for stability and wealth preservation, I'm feeling pretty good, especially with all the talk about inflation and interest rates.
The peace of mind alone has been worth it. Knowing I have a portion of my retirement savings literally backed by physical gold feels different. It's not just numbers on a screen. I'm curious, for those of you who have been in Gold IRAs for a while, what kind of returns have you seen over similar timeframes? Did you diversify beyond just Eagles? I’ve been thinking about adding some Canadian Maple Leafs or even some numismatic coins, but I’m still doing my research. Speaking of research, a quick shout-out to the Learning Center; I've found some really helpful educational resources there when I'm trying to wrap my head around different coin types and market trends. It's truly a fantastic tool for investors.
What are your strategies for the next five years? Are you holding steady, or looking to adjust your holdings? Would love to hear your experiences and tips. Let's keep the conversation going!
