Thinking a lot about my gold IRA today, as it just hit the 5-year mark. Started with a lump sum of $150k back in late 2018. Wild to think about everything that’s happened since then. I’ve been in the casino industry here in Vegas my whole career, so I get risk and strategy, but even I was a little nervous moving such a significant chunk of my retirement into something so… physical. My biggest concern was just ensuring I had a hedge against the kind of economic turbulence we keep seeing, and let's just say, there's been plenty of that to go around.
My portfolio has seen some really solid gains, honestly. Nothing crazy, but consistent. I’m up roughly 28% on the gold itself, which for a safe-haven asset over five years, feels pretty darn good. Compared to some of the stock market swings I’ve watched friends get hammered by, I’m feeling pretty smug about my decision. It’s given me a huge amount of peace of mind, especially during those insane inflation spikes we were experiencing. Knowing I had assets outside of traditional paper currency felt like a major win for my retirement planning.
What I'm curious about now is how others are feeling about their long-term gold IRA performance. Anyone else out there hit the 5-year mark recently? What kind of returns are you seeing? Are you considering rebalancing at all, or just letting it ride? I’m always weighing options, even if I'm generally happy with my current position. I've been thinking about adding more, but want to gauge the sentiment first.
Also, to anyone considering this, seriously do your homework. There are a lot of nuances to setting up a gold IRA correctly. I remember using one of those "Eligibility Checker" tools online to see if my existing retirement accounts even qualified for a rollover – I think it was at eligibility.goldirablueprint.com/. Made the whole process a lot clearer from the jump. Anyone else use similar tools to get started?
