My 401k to Gold IRA Rollover - Smooth Sailing (mostly)

Just wanted to share my experience getting some of my 401k moved over to a Gold IRA. Been thinking about this for a while, especially with all the noise out there about inflation and the stock market being so volatile. As someone who deals with agriculture here in Fresno, I just get real assets. Always have. So, the idea of having some solid gold as a hedge really clicked with me.
I had about $80k in an old 401k from a previous gig, just sitting there doing… something. Decided to roll about $50k of that into gold. The process itself was actually pretty straightforward. I called up a couple of the companies I’d researched, got some quotes, and ended up going with one that had good reviews and seemed to understand what I was looking for. Filling out the paperwork felt a bit like applying for a loan again, but it wasn't overly complicated. The most stressful part was probably just waiting for the funds to clear and seeing the gold purchased. It took about three weeks from my initial contact to getting the confirmation that my gold was bought and securely stored.
Honestly, it's a huge relief. Knowing a good chunk of my retirement is in something tangible, something that’s stood the test of time, just feels right. I’m not saying it's going to make me a millionaire overnight, but for stability and peace of mind, it's been a great move for me personally. My wife was a little skeptical at first, but even she’s starting to see the appeal after watching the news lately.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What were your thoughts on the process? Any surprises or things you wish you knew beforehand?
