Rolled my old 401k into a Gold IRA - feeling good!

Just wanted to share my recent experience. I've been eyeing early retirement for a while now – aiming for by 55 if possible – and after seeing some of the market volatility from my Minneapolis office, I decided to finally pull the trigger on rolling an old 401k into a Gold IRA. I had about $180k sitting in a traditional 401k that I hadn't touched since leaving my last company, and it just felt… exposed. All those ups and downs in tech, and I'm thinking, "Is this really how I want to protect my golden years?"
The process itself was surprisingly smooth. I worked with a reputable company, and they basically handled all the paperwork. It was a direct rollover, so no tax hit or anything, which was a huge relief. Honestly, the biggest hassle was just gathering all my old account statements, but even that wasn't too bad. Now, a good chunk of that $180k is in physical gold, held by a custodian. It feels so much more tangible, you know?
Emotionally, it's a huge weight off my shoulders. I'm a marketing executive, so I'm used to analyzing trends and taking calculated risks, but when it comes to my retirement, I want a bedrock. Knowing a portion of my portfolio is diversified outside of traditional stocks and bonds just brings a level of peace I wasn't expecting. I'm still keeping a healthy chunk in other investments, of course, but this feels like real protection.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What are your thoughts on the long-term stability of gold in a retirement portfolio? Especially interested to hear from folks who are also planning an earlier retirement and how they're hedging their bets.
